Dan Ige suffers narrow defeat at UFC 303 after last-minute call-up.
Brian Ortega's withdrawal due to illness on Saturday led to Dan Ige stepping in as a last-minute replacement against Diego Lopes at UFC 303's co-main event. Despite a valiant effort, Ige narrowly lost by decision with all three judges scoring the fight 29-28 in favor of Lopes (25-6).
"I've always said, whoever, wherever, I'll fight anybody," remarked Lopes, speaking through an interpreter.
Ige (18-8) earned applause from the audience for his courage in accepting the fight on short notice. Reflecting on his experience, he stated, "I saw this as an opportunity to make history. It's a tale I'll share with my grandchildren. Winning would have been great, but I couldn't be happier."
